Police in Tororo arrested and detained in their custody three family members: a father, identified as Obbo Yokonani, 71 years old; his son, Oburu David, 49 years old; and a daughter, Abbo Alice, 27 years old, accused of allegedly committing murder.
It is alleged that on Saturday, August 5, 2023, the trio reportedly participated in the murder of their family member, Ochieng Patrick, 41 years old.
According to the police, the matter was not reported to them until Monday, the burial day, when some of the neighbors brought it to their attention.
Police that rushed to the scene of the crime collected the body of the deceased when some people had cleaned it and applied local herbs while it was ready to be buried.
“We stopped the burial and took the deceased body to the Tororo general hospital mortuary for postmortem,” Said Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi south police spokesperson.
According to Moses Mugwe, he revealed that the police got disappointed with the family after tampering with the scene of the crime as well as not reporting to police in a timely manner.
Mugwe cautioned community members against tampering with scenes of crime whenever incidents of this kind occur and called on the public to always cooperate with security when matters of this nature take place.
