The political atmosphere in Tororo District intensified this week as the Electoral Commission, under the supervision of Returning Officer Charles Egimu, officially nominated candidates vying for key leadership positions across Eastern and Western Divisions, as well as Kwapa Town Council.
Among the notable contenders is Ochom Simon Peter, the incumbent LCIII Chairperson for Eastern Division, who seeks to retain his seat. Speaking after his nomination, Ochom pledged a “bag of goodies” for his constituents, with immediate priorities including the resolution of Eastern Division boundary issues, completion of Morkatipe View Primary School, and improvements to Kisoli Health Centre III.
In Western Division, Aljamal Manyadi, running under the National Unity Platform (NUP), emphasized his commitment to addressing unfinished school infrastructure, poor road networks, and under-resourced health facilities. Despite citing intimidation, Manyadi urged residents to “vote and protect” their choice, framing the upcoming election as a moment for a protest vote.
From tororo county south Osukuru Town Council, Francis Onyadi was nominated to contest for leadership in Kwapa Town Council. Onyadi promised to deliver last-mile services to every corner of the community, pledging to uplift the lives of the “ muntu wawansi”—the ordinary citizen.
Returning Officer Egimu reminded all candidates to adhere to electoral guidelines and refrain from launching campaigns until the Electoral Commission officially declares the campaign period open.
As the district braces for a competitive race, voters are watching closely to see which candidate will best deliver on promises and bring meaningful change to their communities.
