Uganda continues in extensive testing of MPs as one of their staff tests positive

The parliamentary spokesperson Helen Kawesa has declared that Uganda begins systematic testing of all its 426 legislators and all their staff for the new corona virus.

So far Uganda has officially recorded 1,052 cases of corona virus and zero deaths since march, but all MPs requested for tests due to the nature of their work which involves mostly meeting many people.

The parliamentary spokesperson denied the allegations that an MP had been admitted to hospital with the virus after one of the law maker wrote on their twitter that one of the colleagues was infected.

They have begun the medical screening of the MPs, it started on Thursday. After all MPs are screened, next will be all parliamentary staff, she added.

Uganda has tested and refused entry of 1,500 truck drivers from neighboring countries all testing positive of the virus.

Across the continent right now there more than 600,000 confirmed cases of corona virus, and African countries are imposing a range of prevention and containment measures against the pandemic.
