UWA is investing in drones and a helicopter for real-time monitoring of lions and other wildlife in order to strengthen protection and ensuring evidence-based recovery efforts.
Uganda Wildlife Authority Executive Director Dr James Musinguzi made the statement during the 3rd day of the 6th Bi-Annual Presidential CEO Forum Summit in Fort Portal.
According to Dr. James Musinguzi revealed that the world has changed and currently conservation can be done better through technology
Uganda Wildlife Authority- sometime back were looking for 11.5 billion for the purchase of a chopper and drones to ensure appropriate response in managing wildlife at the parks. According to the breakdown, the Authority wanted Shillings 7 billion for the purchase of a choppers and Shillings 4.5 billion for drones.
Dr. James Musinguzi, the UWA Executive Director, says currently they depend on vehicles and sometimes the UPDF chopper to handle emergencies like deployment of rangers, which isn’t sustainable.
Dr. Musinguzi told the Bi-Annual Presidential CEO Forum Summit in Fort Portal that the helicopter will help to respond to incursions in the parks quickly as opposed to waiting for vehicles that take hours to arrive.
