URA, Contractor clash over tower defects

Barely two days after Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General, Doris Akol admitted the tax body’s headquarters building has defects which the ‘contractor’ is working on, Seyani Brothers Construction has denied responsibility for the omissions.

In a statement released Thursday, Seyani Construction company said that they executed the construction works as per the drawings and details prepared by the Consultants.

“The letter being referred to, was addressed to J.E Nsubuga & Associates Ltd, as “Consultants” and not as “Contractors” and the subject matter clearly stated ‘Design Defects…” part of the statement reads.

According to the company Managing Director, Manish Siyani, URA’s letter highlighting the defects was directed to the Consultant and not the contractor as portrayed in the media.

 “We work based on the philosophy of delivering quality, economy, performance, Integrity and safety,” Siyani said adding, “we would like to assure the members of the public, that we will not compromise on our philosophy on any of our projects, which, indeed, is a testament of our success and impeccable reputation in the construction industry in Uganda.”

Seyani Construction company further explained that the URA letter was to notify the consultant of a three-day ultimatum to fix the design defects to cater for ‘inclement weather scenarios’.
