The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) last evening registered over 15, 000 e-receipts in Kawempe division.

This revelation came on the sidelines of the ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ activation at Masjid Grounds.

“This is the 10th event. We have been to most of the upcountry stations (Mbarara, Lira, Hoima, etc) and finally we are here in Kampala. I want to appreciate the Kawempe taxpayers. We have managed to collect about 15, 000 e-receipts. It’s a sign that the taxpayers have engaged in this activity. This is something that is going to help us mobilize more revenue for the country,” the Ag Manager, Kampala North, Siliman Gafasingo said.

The URA has moved around major cities in the regions to amplify the campaign.

The team has been to Arua, Gulu, Mbale, Mbarara, Fort Portal, Masaka and Hoima.

In Kawempe, taxpayers won goodies including motorcycles, phones, fridges, travel bags and lunch boxes.

Humphrey Ddembe Galiwango, a student of Kyambogo University who won himself a motorcycle while Sarah Nakanyike, who won a Samsung smartphone, Brian Tenywa (travel bag) and Venansco Magara (lunch box), among other winners.

Gafasingo appealed to the taxpayers to continue supporting the URA in mobilizing revenue for the country.

“Please participate. Embrace e-receipt. It helps mobilize VAt particularly. When you pay the taxes, the benefits are enormous for our country. embrace e-receipt and support URA towards this cause,” he said.

He also called on the business community to embrace the ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ campaign.

“This campaign is for the good of everyone. It helps in accountability to URA. It also helps in record keeping. It helps you in preparing your reports. The EPRIS system can allow you to do that. It’s for the benefit of everyone. I highly encourage everyone to embrace it,” he said.

By press time, ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ campaign had moved to Rubaga.

The campaign running for the next 3 months is expected to promote usage of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) through consumer demand for fiscalised receipts when they make purchases.

While launching the campaign in June, Commissioner General John Musinguzi said the goal of the campaign is to drive a culture of accountability and record-keeping.

“These are two important ingredients for any business to succeed. For any economy to develop, we need to have accurate records for us to know the growth of our businesses and for us as consumers to know how much we are spending,” Musinguzi said.
