UWA Receives Road Equipment to Enhance Road Maintenance and Operations Across Conservation Areas

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has received a fleet of road construction and maintenance equipment procured under the IFPA-CD World Bank Project to strengthen infrastructure development and improve access across protected areas.

The handover ceremony was held on 15th June 2026 at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), Entebbe, where the contracted suppliers formally handed over the equipment to UWA.
Under the project, UWA contracted M/s Mantrac Uganda Limited and M/s Muhick International Limited to supply road maintenance and construction equipment, including four excavators, three motor graders, four tractors with accessories, and four bulldozers.

To date, eleven (11) machines comprising three motor graders, four excavators, and four tractors with accessories have been delivered. The equipment will be deployed to key conservation areas, including Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park, where they will support road maintenance, infrastructure improvement, and operational efficiency.

Handing over the heavy duty vehicles to UWA, the suppliers  thanked UWA for the opportunity given to them and assured their commitment to delivering the remaining machinery before the end of June 2026 in line with the contract terms.

In his remarks, UWA Executive Director, Dr. James Musinguzi commended the suppliers for fulfilling their contractual obligations and delivering the equipment within the timeframe.
Dr. Musinguzi said the machinery will play a critical role in opening and maintaining tracks within protected areas, removing invasive plant species, and improving access for conservation management and tourism operations.

He added that the equipment will  strengthen UWA’s capacity to maintain road networks, improve accessibility, and enhance operations across conservation areas. The machinery will also support habitat management interventions and contribute to the effective delivery of UWA’s conservation mandate by ensuring protected areas have the necessary equipment to undertake critical infrastructure and ecosystem management works.

“The machines would be used to sink dams in our national parks for animals use during dry , removal of invasive plant species to create palatable grass in the parks and also keep regular maintenance of roads and tracks for excellent visitors experience “ Dr. Musinguzi said.

Dr  James Musinguzi who has occupied the office for only one year and three months as Executive Director has made a lot of tremendous improvement at the Uganda wildlife authority that have marketed and boosted the tourism sector locally and internationally.

He recently opened up a new regional satellite wildlife Education centre in Mbale city and now looking forward to create more others in Gulu city, West Nile and Kyenjojo areas, he has also gone ahead to streamlined the communication technology and publicity at the Government agency by coming up with an online TV (UWA TV) that makes live broadcast during events of the wildlife.

Some of the workers at UWA whose names never wanted to be mentioned told us that there is a general change at the workplace , welfare, they get lunch unlike before when they could abandon offices  for hours to go and look for lunch, they say that some people could only work half day  and leave due to hunger which is not the case during Dr. Musinguzi’s  tenure.

“the Monday parade where all works gather together and iron out issues affecting their departments and share is an interesting thing Musinguzi has changed at the wildlife authority” one of the workers intimated to us.
