The National Unity Platform – NUP – Chief Whip, John Baptists Nambeshe, has appealed for calm amidst the sad news of the death of his party’s Head of Leagal, Anthony Wameli.
Wameli succumbed to cancer in the United States Wednesday.
While speaking to the Second Opinion, Nambeshie who doubles as the Manjiya county Member of Parliament, called for calm and noted that the struggle which Wameli left prematurely will go on until change is achieved.
“We confirmed from a reliable source that that our NUP party lawyer Anthony Wameli Yeboah passed on, he died a painful death but looking on what he was going their he deserves resting however it is a big blow to the party NUP and all forces of change though at this time we get more united, join hands together without giving up on our struggle for change,” Nambeshie told The Second Opinion.
He said that the Wameli he knew putting aside his professional work of a lawyer, he had dedicated most of his last days to preaching the Gospel to his subjects at his church in Gayaza which he has been doing virtually while on his death bed in the USA.
Wameli was a young pastor who had been preaching to his people through Zoom, added Nambeshie.
He said that Wameli a born of Namisindwa district in Bubulo West was good in counseling and guiding people regardless of their age, color and religion and that for NUP, he has left a lot of unfinished work like the need to make changes in the NUP party constitution and the constitutional reforms required by forces of change in the Uganda Constitution.
“He had the philosophy of encouraging and giving courage, hope to work for the young people. Am proud that the NUP secretariat and the Uganda Law Society contributed to the health bills while we shall convene a meeting on Thursday as NUP to discuss how the body will be brought back and possible arrangements of his burial in Namisindwa district.”
