Marine Police last night retrieved the body of a 29-year old woman after she drowned in River Mayanja.
Earlier, Ruth Nabukenya had reportedly picked a 10-liter jerry can before going to the river to fetch water.
However, she never returned.
This prompted her parents to go for her search.
Norbert Ochom, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident.
“That the victim is alleged to have left home with a 10 liter jerry can to fetch water in river Mayanja at about 10am yesterday, leaving her young sister Nakanwagi at home. By around midday, her parents returned from the garden and were told of the same. They then went to look for her as she is alleged to be mentally deformed but never got her. The neighbors also joined the search team along the river but all in vain until evening time when they decided to report the matter to police,” Ochom explained.
The body was later retrieved by the Police Marine Unit.
