Bugweri County Member of Parliament Abdu Katuntu has said the issue of ‘sole candidate’ is not unique to the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement.
Katuntu was reacting to a resolution made by the top NRM organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), at a retreat held in Chobe Safari Lodge that endorsed President Yoweri Museveni as a sole candidate for the party in the 2021 presidential election.
“The big man syndrome is not unique to the NRM. I had a disagreement with my own party. Gen. Muntu was the one against sole candidature, somehow, the fight carried on. He did some crash landing and then …” Katuntu said said without mentioning names. It is however, possible, he meant four-time presidential candidate, Col. (rtd) Kizza Besigye.
But NRM Deputy Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo came to his ‘rescue’.
“With Gen. Muntu out of FDC, I think FDC now has a sole candidate,” Opondo jumped in.
