By Nathan Ngobi

Veteran journalist and Open Gate FM Lumasaaba News anchor, Emma Watundu, who doubles as Inzu Ya Masaaba State Minister In Charge Of Mutoto Cultural Development has Friday been arrested by Police at Mutoto cultural center in Mbale City.

Watundu, a resident on Mutoto, is reported to have led a group of Defiant Bamasaaba who organized an Imbalu launch despite suspension over COVID 19 preventive guidelines.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police spokesman confirmed Watundu’s arrest.

“It is true. We have in in our custody,” Taitika said in an interview by phone.

He is to be charged for acts likely to cause the spread of Covid-19.

IMALU OKAYED

Meanwhile, government has finally Okayed imbalu to continue. This, however, will carry on under strict guidelines. Mbale district RDC, Hajji Barrazza Ogajjo Suleiman, says that he has received new directives from government to that effect.

According to Ogajjo, no official ceremony will be allowed to take place at Mutoto circumcision site but participants will launch the practice in their homes with a maximum of ten people. No cultural drums and dances will be allowed. Moses, the chairman of Imbalu in Inzu Ya Masaba, welcomed the idea of ‘scientific’ circumcision.
