Canadian aircraft manufacturer, Montreal-based Bombardier Inc, that recently sold and delivered two jets to Uganda, has signed a deal to sell its Canadian Regional Jet (CRJ) regional jet program to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.
Under the deal, Mitsubishi will pay $550 million US in cash and assume about $200 million worth of debt and other liabilities related to the CRJ.
In April this year Uganda acquired two CRJ900 76-seater Bombardier jets at a cost of US$56 million.
Available information indicates that the Government of Uganda committed to procuring six Bombardier planes from the Canadian manufacturers and will be receiving two more Bombardiers in July and September this year.
Meanwhile, the contract Bombardier-Mitshubishi deal stipulates that the Japanese manufacturer take over the maintenance, support, refurbishment, marketing and sales activities for the jets, including services and support facilities in Montreal, Toronto, Bridgeport, West Virginia and Tucson, Arizona, USA.
