Last Saturday, Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, who heads Uganda’s
Coronavirus Response Team launched the country’s relief food distribution
campaign.
The test run that mainly targets vulnerable groups like the elderly and sick that have been affected by a nation-wide lockdown started in Bwaise, Kawempe Division, Kampala.
It is expected to be rolled out to Wakiso district and later across the country.
Dr. Rugunda said Saturday; orphanages, hospitals and barracks will
be given priority.
Beneficiaries are being given sugar, milk, maize flour and beans.
To boost this campaign, generous city businessman, Hamis Kigunddu
responded on April 4, 2020.
Through his foundation, Ham Foundation, he donated Shs100 million to the COVID-19 National Task force to help in boosting the current Government of Uganda campaign to provide relief to Ugandans at risk of hunger as a result of current lockdown.
The donation was received by Dr Rugunda among other officials of government.
While handing over the donation, Kigundde appealed to Ugandans to adhere to the guidelines set by The President and Ministry Of Health.
These guidelines include staying at home and keeping off curfew hours.
“This is not time for worrying about money and loses but for protection of life and assurance of survival,” he said, calling upon fellow businessmen and other Ugandans to give a helping hand to the government during this hard time.
