Civil society organizations in Kasese district say that the continued keeping of internally displaced persons in camps is a violation of their rights to good shelter.
Since 2020, more than 300 people are living in camps following floods and landslides which destroyed their houses and also killed a section of people.
The Executive Director of Creations Forum Africa, Johnson Muhindo reveals that the displaced persons need to be relocated to safer places where the victims can escape the un deplorable conditions within the camps.
Since 2013, more than 100 people have since been killed by disasters in Kasese district.
In a bid to partly solve some of the un deplorable conditions within the camp, Government and a number of well-wishers have been delivering relief items to the en-camped victims.
In the beginning of November 2022, the Foundation for Urban and Rural Advancement-FURA and Creations Forum Africa through Emergency Relief Fund and Oxfam visited Kasika village where in September 2022, 16 people perished in mudslides.
The organizations delivered sugar, maize flour, soap, sanitary towels and water purification tablets, washing items, sauce pans, basins and jerry cans.
Muhindo challenged the beneficiaries to use the items sparingly.
