The 64th Common Wealth Parliamentary Conference kicked off in Kampala with arrivals Sunday.
Over 800 delegates are in attendance.
However, to detect, deter and disrupt any range of criminality, security organs have deployed highly visible and non-visible resources.
These involve a mix of overt and covert officers, deployed in and around the venues; state of the art CCTV monitoring and communication centers; search and screening technology; dedicated security dog teams, being utilized throughout the event.
Specialist response teams have also been deployed at selected locations while others are seen patrolling in rapid reaction formations.
The wide range of security measures are constantly reviewed.
This, according to Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga is to ensure they (security measures) remain effective and proportionate.
Whereas Enanga confirmed the deadly deployment, he declined to reveal the specifics of the security detail.
“All delegates are encouraged to cooperate with the requests of our security teams, in and around the venues, especially when getting through the check and search points. We further remind them to be vigilant and report any thing that does not feel right, for instance, any unattended items and suspicious or unwanted behavior from someone, to our security officers at the venues,” Enanga said.
The conference, being held under the theme, ‘Adaptation, Engagement and Evolution of Parliaments in a Rapidly Changing Commonwealth’ will come to a close on September 29, 2019.
