CSR: UPDF MPs Donate Shs 204 Million Modern Science Laboratory to Gulu Army SS

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) on Sunday handed over a newly constructed  modern science laboratory to Gulu Army Senior Secondary School to boost learning.

The fully pledged  facility consisting  of well-equipped Biology, Chemistry and Physics compartments was constructed with funding raised by the UPDF Members of Parliament as part of their social corporate responsibility efforts to enhance education services within the military fraternity.

During the commissioning ceremony, Huda Abason Oleru, the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, commended the MPs for their generosity in empowering the future leaders of the nation.

She implored them to continue with similar initiatives, stating that such contributions benefit not only soldiers’ children but civilians as well .

Oleru also thanked the MPs for using the Engineering Brigade to build the standard structure, at a shortest period of time with minimum cost, saying it is a sign of the spirit of patriotism.

Maj General  Henry Matsiko, the UPDF Joint Staff Political Commissariat, who spoke on behalf UPDF MPs in the 11th Parliament, expressed gratitude to the humble contribution the MPs have paid back to UPDF fraternity.

According to Matsiko, this gesture was derived from the guidance of the Commander In Chief by this team who sacrificed their little resources to support the education.

 “The Commander In Chief was exceptionally very passionate about the team. He guided us not to make our own agenda but to ensure the benefit of the institution. This gave us energy and resolve to remain solid,” elaborated Gen Matsiko.

He added that in consultation, the department of education pointed out gaps in Gulu Army Secondary School. He stated, “We did this not because we are looking for votes or cheap popularity but from the moral point of view- to give gratitude to our electorates for having given us a chance to represent UPDF in the 11th Parliament.”

Maj Gen. Felix Busizoori, the Chairman Board of Governors also the UPDF Fourth Division Infantry Commander, expressed gratitude for the magnificent Laboratory block donated by UPDF MPs saying it underscores the MPs soul attachment to education especially in science discipline.

Major  Josephate Tumukunde, the Head Teacher Gulu Army Secondary school noted that the Laboratory block is the first of its kind at the school and  strongly believes that it will improve performances in science subjects.

He said the school, consisting of 2031 learners, plays a vital role in educating not only soldier’s children but majority civilian communities.
