Former M23 rebel hands himself to police over murder of lawyer Ssendegeya

A former combatant of the M23 rebel group member has handed himself to police over the murder of a prominent lawyer in Kisoro town last month.

Lawyer Isaac Ssendegeya was shot dead by unknown assailants on the morning of July 21, 2019 at the doorway of his house in Nturo village near Kisoro town bordering Rwanda.

According to Kigezi Region police spokesperson , Elly Matte, Charles Munyaneza also known as Seruhasha Saddam,33 handed himself to police in Mbarara on Sunday.

“Charles Munyaneza a. k. a Seruhasha Saddam a male adult aged 33, a Mtutsi by tribe, a Congolese national a former M23 rebel, a refugee and resident of Nakivale Refugees settlement camp in Isingiro district presented himself to Mbarara police station after getting information from the media that he was being suspected to have killed the lawyer,”Matte told the Nile Post.

He said the suspect was later delivered by Mbarara police to their counterparts in Kisoro for interrogation.
