The Independent Electoral Commission (EC) has granted Presidential aspirant, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde a go ahead to consult his local and international voters on his bid to run for presidency in the 2021 general polls.
In a letter dated March 4, 2020, EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama said: “We therefore, urge you, while conducting consultations, to desist from holding rallies, campaigns and carrying out processions on public roads under the guise of conducting consultative meetings, as this would totally be at variance with the objectives of consultations envisaged under Section 3 of the Presidential Elections Act, 2005.”
On February 28, 2020, Gen. Tumukunde wrote to the EC stating his intention to consult his voters ahead of nominations later this year. His letter was received March 3, 2020 and on March 4, 2020, the EC gave him a green light.
On Tuesday, Gen. Tumukunde met Deputy Director, Operations to see how to harmonize his consultations with security.
It now remains to be seen when he begins consultations.
