James Onono Ojok

Gulu University Covilyce one Natural Products whose principal investigator is Dr Lamwaka Alice Veronica has again beaten over 200 exhibitors from East Africa in a Trade Fair organized by Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) in Nyamagana Stadium in Mwanza.

The Trade fair started on the 26th of August 2022 and went on until Sunday 4th September 2022 majorly for sale and departure for distant exhibitors.

On Friday evening 2nd September 2022 in an official closing ceremony, honorable Amina Makilagi the Nyamagana District Commissioner in Mwanza announced Gulu University the best exhibitor doing research in herbal products to support the entire East Africa Region as vetted by the judges of Tanzania Chamber of Commerce.

According to honorable Amina, Gulu University winning is not surprising because the University brings their innovation to the public hence advising other universities to ensure they share their solution based work rather than keeping it just as a mere prototype for study purposes only.

She added that Tanzania supports cooperation and networking in the region and advised researchers and innovators to take advantage of such initiatives like exhibition and trade fair hence calling upon Gulu University to see a strategic move of partnering with Tanzania Chamber of Commerce for a bigger goal in the country.

Tanzania Chamber of Commerce later awarded the University a trophy and a certificate

Dr Alice Lamwaka Veronica the lead researcher of Covilyce said the verdict confirms confidence in the product the University is producing and alluded to testimonies of healings from people who took the herbs for various sickness within the week of the exhibition which exonerated doubts.

Professor Openjuru George Ladaah the Gulu University Vice-Chancellor applauded the team for showcasing the ability of the University in research and innovation in practice.

He added that the award is a big boost to the University in achieving its mandate for transforming the community which has since gone global.

“This is big, because we are struggling with what we have to get these products for international use “. Prof Openjuru said.

Last Year during the East African exhibition hosted by Tanzania, Gulu University products were second best overall after Kenya.
