I’m in the race for Gogonyo Parliamentary b-election – defiant Taligola

By Lawrence Okwakol

Pallisa: Issa Bantalib Taligola who served  two terms  as Palisa district LCV chairperson says that he is fully  in the race of the Gogonyo county parliamentary  by election come rain come sunshine.

Last week Rose Mary Nansubuga Sseninde the NRM director of mobilization raided Gogonyo and declared  the NRM party flag bearer as Derrick Orone  former area member of parliament who was  ejected out of parliament  by court of appeal.

Issa Taligola Bantalib had asked the NRM party to hold primaries or give him the flag since his longtime political opponent Derrick Orone is unpopular to the masses but they instead refused and declared Orone Derrick.

Issa Bantalib Taligola said it’s regrettable for the Rose Mary Nansubuga Sseninde the NRM director of mobilization to misuse the media by reporting that he had stepped down in favor of Derrick Orone the NRM flag bearer. He revealed that he could not be stupid to the level of stepping down to serve his people yet he went to court to seek for justice.

According to Taligola it would be better for Nansubuga and the NRM party to convince Orone to step down for him since he (Orone) is an image of shame to the NRM party for rigging an election.

“I cannot betray my people who are ranked the poorest in the country without clear representation, Nansubuga with Majidu Dhikusoka the Pallisa resident district commissioner went on radio telling people lies that I refused a juicy job. Which job let them give Orone the job and I represent my people of Gogonyo what is wrong with that”?  Bitter Taligola roared.

He said that the fate of Gogonyo should be left to voters’ not external influence because fronting the issue of the flag bearer weakens the party especially if he or she is not genuinely elected.

“President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni wisely selected Jessica Alupo Epel as his vice president because of her abilities and support of the party regardless of having stood as an independent”, Taligola said.

He said that his nomination is on 1st August 2022 at 10 :00am at  the district   EC offices  in senior quarters ,  whiles as we got information of nomination of  his challengers Joseph Okoboi Opolot of NUP on 1st August 2022, Michael Emuloni of FDC on  2nd August 2022 and  Derrick Orone NRM on 2nd  August 2022 and election will take place on 11th August 2022 , the EC  has  given  candidates only 6 days of campaigning.

There are 4 sub counties Obutete, Gogonyo , Opopongo and Kaukula with a total of 62 polling stations

During a press briefing held at Taligola’s home, Wilson Emorut the Apopong sub county NRM chairperson disclosed that he was forced to go to Pallisa FM to declare his support for Orone against his will.

Emorut said he has been in FDC and Taligola convinced him to join the ruling party.

“What disappointed me was when Nansubuga said Taligola is fighting the party yet he used to tell us to vote for him and Museveni “, Emorut said.

Simon Opio whom Donato Oola Olam the Pallisa CAO interdicted from being community development officer for Chelekura sub county for openly campaigning for Taligola said most salaried workers including security agents are involved in Gogonyo politics but nobody bothers.

However, Palisa RDC Dhikusoka Batambuze said that as head of security he is mindful of peaceful elections.

“My caution to people of Gogonyo and whoever is interested in Gogonyo to desist from provoking security”, Dhikusoka said.
