Joy Owembabazi to Lobby for Empowerment Programs for Older Persons

JOY OWEMBABAZI

By Elijah Khisa

Joy Owembabazi contesting for the position of division councilor representing elderly persons for  Kisenyi 1 parish Kampala central division urban council on NRM ticket has urged residents to vote for her such that she can lobby government to uplift the social services for elderly persons given the significant roles they played while still in active service.

She told this website at her residency in Kisenyi that for the last 40 years of the NRM rule, little attention has been given to the community of elderly persons who continue facing challenges of marginalization among communities yet they are crucial in the country’s development agenda.

Joy, who  said she was the best candidate with points of lobby, pledged to work with the government to advocate for better shelter, health insurance, and a modest welfare package for these people in appreciation for their services as senior citizens.

She pointed out that many older persons across the country have been abandoned by either their immediate family members or communities due to the burden of old age and are exposed to severe hunger, diseases and lack of basic social necessities.
