Extending a hand of support to humanity especially vulnerable children is the best gift mankind should do to be counted.

The new development came to light over the weekend during a visit by a delegation of executive members under  the Mothers Union of Namirembe diocese to Sanyu Babies home.

The team led by their president Roseline Bingi Kawiso  delivered  a consignment of goods to the home including nutritious foods and drinks for babies, Toilet tissues, laundry soap and hard cash among others in solidarity with the abandoned babies.

The delegation action   was part of their week-long activities lined up to mark their celebration of Mary’s Day  2024 which included securing drugs from friendly pharmaceutical companies and medical specialists to carry out  free medical camps to offer treatment to poor and vulnerable victims of health related challenges.

The camps were held both  at Kasangati in Wakiso district  and Luzira St.Steven church of Uganda primary school respectively among others.

Kawiso  said as they celebrate this day, they also  raising funds towards construction of their high billed Mothers Union house near Namirembe cathedral and each year they hold a series of lined up activities to sensitize the public about the great roles Mothers Union bodies play among respective Church of Uganda  communities across the country.

‘We shall be climaxing our activities on  Monday 25th March with mass at Namirembe cathedral before  proceeding to the gardens hold the  fundraising drive to be led by  our dear friend and sister in Christ the Inspector general of government IGG Betti   Kamya Namisango  Turwomwe as chief guest ’ noted Kawiso

She noted that  they are appealing to well-wishers, donors and friends  to support them in raising at least 8bn towards the completion of part of a  floor of their dream  house complex   with proceeds raised  to  support some of their pastoral community-led initiative projects among others.

Christine Kayondo the home information assistant and secretary on behalf of the home said they are looking for 177m as a co-funding mechanism to complete payment for the multipurpose solar lighting and heating system which was donated with a grant from SNV international a Sweden based NGO.

She appealed to donors and well-wishers to respond to their calls by extending funding support to offset this outstanding cost of 177m to be used for installation of the system which has already been delivered at the home from Sweden only awaiting accessories to get it fixed.

“We had initially been using local power but due to the choking intensity of blackouts, which negatively affects the toddlers aged below  zero months who need to remain  constantly under powered lighting and heating  systems 24/7, we could not copy the Umeme bills, she lamented.  Kayondo observed that they later installed a three phase power system from Umeme but the high consumption bill  forced them to look elsewhere for new power sources and systems thus teaming up with SNV Sweden for this solar power system project.

She observed that the home is home to  47 children aged between zero months to 4 years and   is urging people of good heart with resources to come up and volunteer  to  sign up child adaptation documents to own these children.

She also warned girls who are not ready for marriage to stay away from live sexual escapades as a deliberate strategy of sparing the innocent lives of the babies they dump like toilet tissue.
