Museveni scheduled for private visit to Kabaka

President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled for a private visit to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi later today.

Sources have told the Second Opinion that Museveni will arrive at the Kabaka’s Banda Palace at 11.00am.

The two leaders have not met in over a year and it is not clear what they will discuss. However, it seems the Kingdom and Central Government are currently enjoying cordial relations as evidenced by the Katikiro Charles Pater Mayiga’s recent lauding of Museveni’s government.

According to the Katikiro’s recent statement, Museveni’s reign cannot be compared to that of former presidents Apollo Milton Obote and Idi Amin.

Efforts to contact Katikiro Mayiga about details of the imminent visit to the Banda Palace were futile by press time.

In August last year, Katikiro Mayiga criticised government over how it had handled two the Buganda MPs following the assassination of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.

Mayiga’s statement in which he expressed displeasure at the reported torture of the Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi and his Mityana Municipality counterpart Francis Zaake,  came at the height of government’s standoff with the two MPs and other opposition politicians, in the wake of the Arua Municipality by-elections.

“Our attention has been drawn to the violence that occurred on the eve of the by-election in Arua in the course of which one Yasin Kawuma was shot dead and Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine, and Mityana Municipality MP Hon. Francis Zaake were arrested,” Mayiga wrote on behalf of the Buganda kingdom.

Mayiga’s statement then drew the ire of Mr. Museveni, who said he would seek answers from the Kabaka.
