Museveni’s 4 Acre Model is a Success, Says SPA Mutyabule.

The presidential initiative of the 4 Acre Model has changed the lives of people in Busoga sub region.

According to the Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of poverty alleviation in Busoga Mrs Florence Mutyabule, the initiative has been a success to many lives in the region.

Mutyabule says most of the people who have followed the president guidance on using small land for higher productivity has benefited and their lives have drastically changed.

“We have the presidential demonstration farm in Kityerera, Mayuge where many people have visited and learnt new farming methods, utilizing small portions of land for higher production,” she said

Mrs Mutyabule also asked her boss, President Yoweri Katuta Museveni to think about popularizing the one- and two-acre model to cater for the Ugandans with land less than the four acres.

“We need to consider Ugandans with one to two acres of land and we ask the President to give this test because the four acre model is suitable to those with four acres and above,” Mutyabule said.

However, Mutyabule revealed that land fragmentation in the region has greatly affected the program in certain families making it a challenge to implement the initiative in some areas.

Mutyabule said that  in some areas, families have divided land into small plots making it difficult to have the program implemented on ground.

On addition, Mutyabule noted that besides land being fragmented, sugar cane growing has also been a factor affecting the initiative where you find even those with one or two acres hiring it out, leaving no space for the initiative to take shape.

She said people should concentrate on short-term earning enterprises other than sugar cane growing which has left many of them in poverty where prices are determined by the processors.

Mrs Mutyabule cautioned that people with less than 10 acres of land should not dare growing sugarcane but instead concentrating on short term ventures like poultry, animal farming, fish farming among others.

The President has put emphasis on the 4 Acre Model program with a feeling of having all Uganda out of poverty, and this is the only way in addition to other programs like PDM, Emyooga among others.
