The National Unity Platform (NUP) Caucus of the 12th Parliament has fronted Hon. Paul Mwiru, as their party’s flag bearer for the Speakership contest and later joined at the party headquarters, Makerere Kavule where he launched his manifesto.

Mwiru who is the Jinja South East Member of Parliament unveiled his manifesto, premised on the revival of the image and reputation of the institution of Parliament, restoration of the rule of law in Parliament, Equity and inclusivity for all members and citizens, Responsiveness to the aspirations of Ugandans, Competent, exemplary and accountable leadership.
“We are here to bring back sanity to Parliament, restoration of rule of law, Equity and inclusivity for all members and citizens, responsiveness to the aspirations of Ugandans, competence, exemplary and accountability” Mwiru said. The National Unity Platform recently unveiled Paul Mwiru as their flag bearer for the post of Speakership waiting for NRM’s candidate on 25th May, 2026, a day the 12th Parliament shall start its operations.

According to sources, Mwiru is likely facing off with Jabob Oboth Oboth, Persis Namuganza or DP’s Nobert Mao whom the NRM is yet to officially unveil after their Sunday 24th assembly at statehouse Entebbe. Today we launched the manifesto of our Speakership candidate Hon Mwiru Paul, whose candidature is firmly anchored on the rule of law,
David Lewis Rubongoya, the party’s Secretary General said as NUP, they have hopes that once elected as Speaker, Mwiru’s first responsibility is restoring the institution to order and strengthening house as a democratic institution that serves all Ugandans with fairness and accountability.

An official poster was also unveiled by the party’s acting party president Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru who urged all members of Parliament to vote for Hon. Mwiru if they still need power to belong to citizens. “Regardless of the party differences, we implore all MPs to vote rightly by voting Mwiru for Ugandans to feel that truly power belongs to people as their constitutional right” Dr. Lina said.
