A joint team of Detectives and security operatives on Friday morning raided the sprawling Bukedea residence of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among at Apopong village as investigations into alleged corruption, illicit enrichment and wealth declaration widened further.
The operation that started at around 10am saw security officers bumping in the heavily guarded upcountry property in several vehicles before commencing searches. Sources familiar with the operation said investigators were expected to search for documents, electronic devices, financial records and other materials considered relevant to the ongoing probe. This marks the latest phase in a series of coordinated searches targeting properties linked to the troubled former Speaker.

Similar operations were conducted earlier in the week at Among’s residences of Nakasero and Kigo in Kampala, where security teams recovered documents, phones, computers and luxury vehicles for forensic examination.
Among’s blue Rolls Royce and a Range Rover bearing the personalised registration “AAA” were later impounded and transported to Police Forensics Headquarters in Naguru and materials recovered could be potential exhibits in court should prosecutors approve criminal charges.
The investigations intensified after Inspector General of Government Aisha Batala Nalule confirmed receiving complaints alleging possible failure by Among to fully declare her assets under the Leadership Code Act.

By press time, neither police nor Among’s legal team had publicly commented in detail on the latest operation in Bukedea, but the continued searches suggest investigators are widening efforts to map assets, records and financial links connected to the former Speaker and her associates.
