The National Housing and Construction Corporation (NHCC), has handed over a newly developed site where the 2026 presidential nominations will be conducted next week.

The handover ceremony took place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the commission’s new headquarters in Lweza Lubowa zone in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality along Entebbe Road. The partial handover of the newly developed site marks the first phase of a long-term project that will eventually house the Commission’s permanent headquarters.

While addressing reporters, Kenneth Kaijuka the Chief Executive Officer National Housing and construction Company noted that the site was delivered within a record six weeks after the groundbreaking on July 30,2025.

“This was a tall order for us as National Housing, but with collective support, we delivered. Today we hand over the site for nominations, and once the exercise is concluded, we shall reclaim it to prepare for the declaration of results, ” Mr. Kaijuka explained.

“Immediately after the general elections, we will resume with the construction works on this 10-acre property,” said Kaijuka.

‘The 3.5-acre site has been paved and fitted with electricity, solar lighting, parking facilities, an ICT hub for internet access, and CCTV surveillance, ensuring readiness for the high-profile electoral event.

The Chairperson of Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, was impressed with the new site saying it’s a major boost to the institution’s work.

“The choice of this venue is not only to host presidential nominations but also to become the permanent home of the Commission. This project is a confirmation of the government’s commitment to strengthening Uganda’s democratic processes and ensuring that the voice of the people is respected,” Justice Byabakama said.

“I think National Housing has done a commendable job. Right now, we can’t doubt your capacity and ability. When another challenge arises, I will immediately recommend you,” Gen. Katumba expressed happiness.

Gen. Katumba Wamala tasked the Uganda Police Force to develop a detailed traffic management plan, noting that the new venue offers better access routes compared to the previous site at Kyambogo University.

Meanwhile, presidential nominations will be conducted  next week from 23-24 September 2025 at the newly developed site in Lweza Lubowa zone in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality.
