Right from November 2025, the late His Majesty fallen King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was battling with illnesses and under specialized medical support in Germany then later in the United States, according to best Queen Mother.

On Friday 4th Sept 2026 President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni received the remains of King Oyo at Entebbe International Airport where he praised the late as a good person and a good leader whose passing is a great loss to the people of Tooro and Uganda.

“During his reign as King of Tooro, Oyo was a good person and a good leader. His passing is a great loss to the people of Tooro and Uganda. I encourage the people of Tooro to remain calm and avoid disorganisation, even in this difficult time” the President appealed.

Meanwhile as King Oyo’s send-off is in high gear, his succession also takes shape as news circulating indicate that his heir isn’t his son but his first cousin, a son to his late father’s young brother in the names of Prince George Desmond Kamurasi.

George Desmond Kamurasi, 36, has spent most of his adult life in Britain, living quietly away from Tooro’s palace politics. He recently made vows to a British woman, no name or background has been made public, and the couple has a young son.

On the royal side, he is the son of Prince George Desmond Jimmy Mugenyi, younger brother of the late King Olimi Kaboyo III, which makes him a first cousin of King Oyo and places him inside the established Babiito succession.

According to PLU spokesman Andrew Mwenda, the Royal Succession Committee of Toro Kingdom met on September 4, 2026 at Fort Motel in Fort Portal City and selected George as the next king of Toro to succeed his late cousin, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi 1V who died on August 26, 2026 in Texas USA.

“The committee composed of 21 people was selected by the Royal Clan of Toro (Ababiito) on August 28th 2026, is chaired by Omusuuga Charles Akiiki Kamurasi has been meeting every day since Monday September 31st and out of the 21 members, 18 attended the meeting of whom 15 voted for George Kamurasi”, Mwenda said.

He added that after thorough discussions with the CDF of UDPF who is also chairman of PLU, Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba, and the CLF, Gen Kayanja Muhanga, and informed both of these developments, Gen Keinerugaba fully endorsed the choice of the Succession Committee of Toro because it is consistent with the customs, all precedents and laws of Toro on succession.

“The CDF has said that President Yoweri Museveni supports the decision of the Royal Committee on Succession. He sent a team led by a senior cabinet minister to Fort Portal. After extensive consultations with all the key stakeholders, the committee was convinced that there is a wide consensus around the succession of Kamurasi”, Mwenda emphasized.

The public now awaits the Omusuuga to make a formal announcement officially to the Babiito clan leaders, who according to custom, is to make a public announcement after the burial of the King.

The development confirms speculations for those who predicted earlier that King Oyo had no son to be the next King even after their prime minister had told the subjects that the late had a son.

So does Oyo lineage allow mulatto kids to ascend throne one day with a muzungu queen mother? All these remain unanswered questions yet to be cleared a few moments after Oyo’s send-off.

Meanwhile in other tribes of Busoga and Buganda, all these gaps were closed, a King must be pure bred and a mother belonging to the rest of the clans otherwise, one wouldn’t stand chance to take the throne with such a background.
