The 40,000 barrels of test crude (oil) are securely stored in Buliisa district, according to the Chief Executive Officer, Proscovia Nabbanja.
Ms Nabbanja was on Friday allaying fears of Members of Parliament on the National Economy Committee (NEC) at Kampala Serena Conference Centre.
The legislators had asked her to confirm whether the crude oil drilled during the exploration activities has been sold or was still within the country. (No crude oil is being stolen as it has been alleged,” she said.
The MPs were led by chairperson NEC Syda Bbumba has opened the meeting, saying the legislators were ready to learn from the latest developments in the oil and gas sector.
The MPs were enlightened on the Tilenga and Kingfisher projects, which await a final investment decision (FID) before production of oil of can begin.
According to Ms Nabbanja, Kabaale Industrial Park (KIP), is one of the midstream projects. Other projects include the planned oil refinery, East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) among others like the Kampala Storage Terminal whose 300 acres of land have been acquired. UNOC currently manages the Jinja Storage Terminal.
UNOC is mandated to drive sustainable growth of the oil and gas sector through strategic partnerships and championing national participation.
When the final investment decision (FID) is made by the Government and the joint venture partners, the subsequent activity will be production.
