NRM party CEC to decide fate of primaries on Saturday

Petitioned: Dr. Odoi

 BY NATHAN NGOBI

The ruling party NRM got stranded on releasing their official approved election roadmap today (Wed. 24th July 2020)    where voters are to line up behind their candidates as opposed to the scientific advice amidst threats of spreading the deadly corona virus pandemic.

Party secretary General Hon Lumumba Justine who was to officially release the roadmap today in Kampala later changed and pushed the matter to  the Central Executive committee (CEC) that is scheduled to sit on Saturday to decide on how the election would be carried out.

This follows the controversy surrounding the manner in which the party primary election would be conducted as the scientific and ministry of Health oppose their party’s usual method of lining behind candidate an issue which they advised that would lead to the spread of the deadly corona virus disease.

The MOH advised the party last evening after consultation that the method of lining up voters during the party primary election would cause more harm as both the candidates and supporters may not observe the SOP  and social distancing since their health contact background are not established.

According to Dr. Tanga Odoi the NRM party  EC chairperson said that the matters  are now taken to CEC which would sit on Saturday   for debate and decision making on the methodology  to foloow while conducting the NRM parimaries.

In fact  Dr. Tanga Odoi went ahead and wrote on his official social media  network that

“ Friends and relatives and all as NRM EC , we are yet to release an approved election roadmap and no one should confuse you with the working draft5. The burden and puzzle we are faced with is our new paradigm of lining up behind candidates amidst this coronavirus threat, CEC meets again on Saturday to hear the final decision after thorough discussion  between our commission , the scientists and party lawyers .

In the circumstances, all intending candidates are advised to wait for the final outcome” Tanga Odoi stated.

However speaking to the NRM party PRO Rojers Mulindwa  told us that the matter of how NRM would conduct the primaries during this difficult time of COVID-19 is too big and therefore it has been pushed to the CEC which is scheduled to sit again on Saturday to determine the fate of party roadmap.

A source within the party disclosed to us that the party would resort to looking for funds to conduct their primaries by use of ballot papers  and digitalized scientific campaigns.
