Onyango Promises ‘Fire Works’ at Cranes-Egypt Duel

Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and Captain, Denis Onyango has sent a big message to Egypt ahead of the team’s double header in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Egypt who are record 7-time Africa Cup of Nations Champions will play Uganda Cranes on August 31 in Kampala before another duel on September 5 in Alexandria.

“We know how strong they are going forward because they’ve got very good attackers who are very experienced and very quick. For us we just need to be very patient at the back and avoid mistakes because they don’t need a lot of chances,” Onyango said in a BBC Sport interview.

“It’s going to be fireworks in Kampala because they know what kind of a team we are.”

Onyango who plies his trade with the reigning CAF Champions of Africa Mamelodi Sundowns, joined the Cranes Camp on Friday, August 25 but the player was not used on the Uganda Cranes regional tour team that recorded a 3-1 victory against North East Region Select.

Uganda will face off with a strong Eyptian side that has stars like Arsenal’s Mohammed Elneny and Liverpool’s new recruit Mohamed Salah.

Speaking about the Liverpool pacey winger, Onyango added: “They’re capable of scoring with the likes of Mohamed Salah, so for us it’s a challenge but to play at the highest level we must face very difficult teams like Egypt.”

Onyango is expected to start training today with other players in double sessions, both morning and evening at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
