PARLIAMENT COVID-19 CASH: Attorney General Summoned

By Francis Otucu

Attorney General, William Byaruhanga is Wednesday afternoon expected to appear before Parliament so as to guide the House on what happens to the money sent to accounts of individual Members of Parliament.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga confirmed appearance of Byaruhanga before Parliament.

“The Plenary is underway. In light of court’s ruling that payment of 10bn/- to MPs be stayed — and yet it had already been disbursed — I’ve ordered the Attorney General, who is a co-accused, to come to this House and offer us guidance on how we should proceed,” She tweeted.

On Tuesday, court ordered that payment of Shs20m each to individual MPs’ accounts be stayed.

The 10b is money Parliament allocated itself out of the recently passed Shs304b supplementary budget to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
