Police Chief shot by South Sudan Refugee airlifted to Kampala

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ian Natukunda who was shot Saturday by a South Sudan refugee has been airlifted to Kampala. The suspect, a one Abubakari remains admitted at Moyo Hospital after he was shot in the bums in a scuffle to disarm him. The police say both Natukunda and the suspect are responding well to treatment.

BACKGROUND

At 7:30am on Saturday, a one Abubakri, a refugee from South Sudan and a resident of Palorinya Base Camp grabbed a gun from a female police officer who was on guard at Camp Base.

ASP Natukunda, the officer in charge Palorinya was alerted. He responded.

However, on reaching the scene, Abubakari had the gun pointing to Natukunda.

It is then that Natukunda was shot in the chest.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to disarm him, he, too, was shot in the bums.

Both were rushed to Moyo Hospital.

However, Natukunda being in critical condition, he was rushed to Kampala.

Regional Police Spokeswoman, Josephine Angucia said the motive of grabbing the gun and attempted murder is being investigated.
