Police move to increase number of personnel as recruitment starts

The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has announced plans to recruit 2,500 personnel.

The officers will, after 12 months of training, pass out at the rank of Probationer Police Constable (PPC).

According to Police ‘s Human Resources Director, AIGP Jesse Kamunanwire, deadline for submitting applications is February 18, 2024. The advert seen by this publication, indicates that the applicants must be between the age of 18 and 23 and must possess a UCE certificate or equivalent with at least four credits including English and at least a pass in Mathematics. 

The total Police Force strength currently stands at 52,000 against the population of about 42 million, which translates into a police population ratio of 1:832, as compared to 2022’s ratio of 1:893. The generally accepted police-to-civilian ratio is 1:450, or approximately 225 police officers for every 100 000 people.
