PostBank Uganda raid: Ex- IGG Boss named new MD

PostBank Uganda has named Edwin Keronga as the acting bank Managing Director, five days after MD Stephen Mukweli and six others were charged with fraud before anti-corruption court in Kampala.

In the statement, a copy seen by this news site, Post Bank announced that a dedicated team has been put in place to ensure smooth running of the bank’s operation country wide.

“Postbank Uganda would like to inform its customers, business partners and other stakeholders that a dedicated management team has been put in place to ensure smooth operations in all the branches country wide. Banking operations in all our outlets are going on normally and has not in any way been affected by the events in the recent weeks,” part of the statement reads.

Since 2009, Keronga has been the bank’s head of Internal Audit.

Before joining PostBank, he served as Principal Inspectorate Officer with Inspectorate of Government.

He is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) as well as the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Certified Risk Based Auditor and Certified Forensic Investigation Professional. Keronga holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Master of Science in Accounting and Finance from Makerere University.

HISTORY

Last month, State House Anti-Corruption Unit raided and arrested MD Stephen Mukweli and six others including Safina Wabuna, the executive director for Information and Communication Technology (ICT),  David Mwesige, the head of Information Technology,  Augustine Kisitu, the head of Business Technology and Emmanuel Mwaka, the finance manager, Alex Kayaayo (Executive Director for Credit and Business Growth), Fred Samuel Wasike (Head of Business Growth) and Gilbert Nuwamanya (Sales Manager) were arrested over abuse office, causing financial loss and conspiracy to defraud their employer.

They suspects were last week charged with fraud before the anti-corruption court in Kampala.
