“VALUE ADDITION, AGRO-TOURISM TO DRIVE ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION IN BUSOGA,” SAYS ALHAJI KIRUNDA

The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the Kyabazinga of Busoga HRH William Gabula Nadiope Kadhumbula IV for promoting Busoga’s rich cultural heritage, norms, and values both locally and intentionally.
In his message delivered by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga alongside Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during the 12th coronation anniversary on 19th September, 2026 at Mayuge play grounds, the President applauded the Kyabazinga for developing the region.
Mr. Museveni who extended financial contributions toward the anniversary celebrations emphasized wealth creation, agricultural diversification, development and embrace high-income agricultural enterprises instead of relying heavily on sugarcane growing “During this 12th coronation anniversary of the Kyabazinga, I urge all people of Busoga and Ugandans at large to wealth creation, agricultural diversification, development and embrace high-income agricultural enterprises instead of relying solely on sugarcane growing”, Kadaga read.
The Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV centered his message on teamwork, development, and organizational transformation and strictly follow the year’s theme of Strengthening structures and systems in OBB (Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga), to achieve total regional transformation.
The King reminded the people of Busoga to continuously uphold the four foundational pillars of his leadership: Unity of Purpose, Transparency, Accountability, and Positive Impact. He hailed various development partners of the Kingdom for their active roles in uplifting key local sectors, specifically health and education.
The Kyabazinga rallied his subjects to actively protect, promote, and tap into local tourism potential across the region. Dignitaries present were Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja represented the Head of State as the chief guest, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African affairs Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama, State Minister for Gender and Culture Mary Grace Kuteesa, Members of Parliament from the Busoga sub-region and other districts.
Other leaders include the Nabagereka of Buganda Naginda Sylvia, the Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister (Katikiro) Dr. Joseph Muvawala Nsekere, Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga (attending in a show of inter-kingdom relations), Busoga Kingdom Deputy Prime Ministers Prof. Dr. Muhammad Lubega Kisambira and Osman Noor Ahmed.
The Chief Prince (Issabalangira) of Busoga, hereditary chiefs, and clan heads, Kingdom ministers including Richard Mafumo and other institutional and religious leaders' delegation blessed the function.
Nabbanja commended the Kyabazinga for continuing to champion the unity, peace, and development of the Busoga region since his ascension to the throne on September 13, 2014 where she emphasized that the Kingdom has remained a beacon of peace and a strong development partner.
Speaking to the local challenges, she emphasized the President’s vision for residents with small pieces of land to diversify away from sugarcane growing urging them to embrace high-yield activities like coffee farming, poultry, and swamp-based fish farming to increase household income from smaller plots.
Nabbanja announced that the central government plans to hold a brainstorming meeting with ministers from Busoga to map out a clear socioeconomic transformation plan for the sub-region.
In response to Busoga Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala’s request to return remaining kingdom properties, she acknowledged the tight relationship and vowed to continue addressing these collaborative efforts.
