Presidential Campaigns Starts 29th September 2025 as One Aspirant Withdraws from the Race Ahead of his Nomination Day

The Chairperson of Electoral commission Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi,has confirmed   September 29, 20125  as date set for all presidential candidates to begin their campaigns across the country. 

The Commission’s chairperson made the revelation last evening on September 22, 2025 during a pre-nomination briefing held at the commission’s new Headquarters in Lweza /Lubowa zone in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso district.  On that same day an independent presidential aspirant Robert Mbulambago Mutono announced his withdrawal from the presidential race saying he is going to support NRM flag bearer Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa.

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi on Tuesday September 23,2025, started with nomination of NRM’s flag bearer Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa at 10am and this will be followed by nomination of Elton Mabirizi of Conservative party (CP) and Robert Kasibante later in the afternoon.

 While on Wednesday September 24,2025, the commission is set to nominate two candidates who include NUP’s flag bearer Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi wine, and FDC’s Nathan Nandala Mafabi.

However, Justice Simon Byabakama noted that the commission is still verifying nomination forms and supporter lists for other presidential candidates and once fully verified, the commission will nominate them within these two days as provided by the Law adding that where necessary they can be nominated on another extra day.

Justice Simon Byabakama said that all aspiring candidates are required to appear at the commission physically for nomination. He appealed to all presidential candidates plus their supporters to follow the guidelines issued by the electoral commission.

Justice Byabakama emphasized that for a presidential candidate to be nominated must be a citizen of Uganda, registered voter, must be above 18 years and possess a minimum formal education of Advanced level certificate or its equivalent.

Justice Simon Byabakama said all presidential candidates appearing for nomination must come with nomination papers filled in triplicate bearing passport photos and proof of payment of Shs. 20 million non refundable fee.  

He added that each candidate is allowed to come with two cars at the nomination venue and these cars must bear police stickers and each must carry ten occupants. The commission warned presidential candidates against conducting processions during the nomination exercise except for the incumbent president who will later address a rally today at Kololo independence grounds.

Justice Byabakama further noted upon successful nomination of candidates they will proceed to launch their campaign manifestos.

The police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke, said only invited guests will access the nomination venue and use of routes to the nomination venue will also be restricted.

” We shall ensure candidates’ convoys do not have more than 20 people. The incumbent president shall use his usual convoy plus his presidential security details.

‘ Processions to the venue are prohibited and security vehicles assigned to a nominated candidate shall only carry security personnel attached to a candidate. The use of rowdy groups like hooligans to provoke security shall have no room and will be dealt with accordingly, ” Afande Rusoke warned.

The police traffic spokesman SP-Micheal Kananura said traffic along Entebbe Road has been diverted saying at Kisubi zone traffic will be diverted to access Kampala City via Nakawuka to Natete. He however noted that all residents affected by traffic diversions will be issued stickers to allow them exit and later access their residences after work.

In similar news, presidential aspirant Robert Mbulambago Mutono withdrew from the race on the last day September 22,2025 saying that he was requested by his supporters from Budaka district and Bukedi region to back president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his last term and then they will back him in the next term 2031.

Coward Robert Mbulambago Mutono explained:” I have withdrawn my candidature to support Mzee Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. We want to consolidate his landslide victory as a visionary leader 2026/2031.

‘ I have consulted cultural and opinion leaders from the Greater Bukedi region who advised me to back Museveni for this coming term and they have promised to support me in the 2031 presidential elections. Therefore, I wish to join Museveni’s campaign team to enable him to accomplish his vision for Ugandans, ” Mbulambago pledged to support Museveni in the 2026 polls.’
