Thursday morning, Uganda’s opposition, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), to be specific, got a huge appointment.
Kampala Capital City Authority’s head of political wing and Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, named Makerere University LCV Councilor and FDC Preacher, Doreen Nyanjura, his deputy, replacing Sarah Kanyike who has been proposed to join the ruling government as a director at city hall.
Going into the second highest office (political wing), Nyanjura is not only against Uganda’s ruling government.
She detests broke men.
“…moving forward, I will be Looking out for those that will leave me economically empowered even we decide to part ways,” she said in a comment to her colleague in the ‘struggle’, Ronald Muhinda’s Facebook post on June 8, 2019.
Yet, she is also not a ‘small’ person.
Until Thursday appointment, she has been a Minister in charge Finance at KCCA. In Kizza Besigye’s government, she is Tourism Minister.
BACKGROUND
Nyanjura is a born of 1989 and a third born of seven siblings at a head teacher’s home in the Western district of Fort Portal. Her father is Samson Muhenda, a former head teacher at Nyakashura. Coming from Fort Portal, she obviously went to Kyebambe Girls for ‘O’ level and then Masheruka Girls for A-level. While at Masherula, she served as Chairperson, School Council.
In 2009, she joined Makerere University from where she graduated with Bachelor of Tourism. She returned, later, for Masters of Arts in Public Policy at the same University before graduating. While at Makerere, she served as Vice Guild President.
Nyanjura holds a postgraduate in Public Policy Analysis and Governance from Uganda Management Institute, UMI.
Not much is known about her private life.
All we know is that she is a very very good friend of ex-Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament, Geofrey Ekanya who doubles as FDC’s Finance boss.
To date, she represents Makerere University as LCV woman councilor at KCCA on FDC ticket.
