The leadership of St.Peters Church Ndeeba parish church of Uganda has set 2/8/2025 as the day on which they shall hold a special memorial mass in memory of the violent demolition of the church by land grabbers.
The development came to light over the weekend during mass at the church at which Christians were officially served with a copy of the case judgment of the suit as well as thanking the family members for the generous support rendered during trial times.
Joyce Namukasa Makanga the church organizing secretary and head of welfare told this website on the sidelines of the mass that they have set 2nd August 2025 as the date for the official public memorial mass in remembrance for the violent demolition of the church which incident happened August 2020 during the Covid -19 lock down.
She thanked the family members of the land owners for standing with the church during the entire trial moments until the conclusion of the case in which victory was secured for the church.
It will be remembered that St. Peter’s Church Ndeeba was a prominent Anglican church in the Ndeeba area of Kampala, known for its long history and community involvement. However, it was tragically demolished in August 2020 after a longstanding land dispute.
Subsequently the Court of Appeal declared the August 2020 demolition of St Peter’s Church in Ndeeba, illegal and halted the 3.8 billion payout to businessman Dodoviko Mwanje.
In a unanimous ruling, justices Irene Mulyagonja, Oscar Kihika, and Moses Kazibwe Kawumi set aside the eviction and demolition, citing procedural irregularities, overturning previous execution orders that had authorized the eviction of the church by Spear Link Auctioneers and Bailiffs.
“The execution that was committed against the occupants of the land was illegal and is hereby set aside,” ruled Justice Mulyagonja, who delivered the lead judgment.
The church was demolished in the early hours of August 9, 2020, by court bailiffs acting on behalf of businessman Dodoviko Mwanje of Ephraim Enterprises, triggering public outrage and condemnation from religious and community leaders.
Namukasa who is also aspiring to contest as NMR party workers representative from Bunamwaya Central to Makindye Sabagabo Municipality appealed to all stakeholders of the church to step forward and support their efforts of raising funds for that function which is slated to bring on together many distinguished dignitaries.
She noted that the church team of lawyers shall be returning to the anti-corruption court on 15th May at 3Pm for mention of the case where the government subsequently sued Dodoviko Mwanje for destruction of property after having lost the case at appeal level.
The church is set to file an application seeking compensation from Mwanje for the destruction of property both within the church, former primary school and property from the residency of the lay reader.
The church lay reader Kimuli David Sebowa appealed to all stakeholders to generously support the fundraising efforts to ensure that the event is successful.
The former RCC for Kampala district hajjati Farida Mpiima Mayanja was exclusively rewarded with a gift by the church leadership for standing with the church during the demolition times as well as other stakeholders including the family members who stood as witness during the trial.
