Residents of Mpala zone in Katabi Town Council ,Wakiso district, were left in shock following the death of three children who died in the fire inferno in the wee hours of Friday morning.
Neighbors say the children’s mother Julie Nalubwama had locked them inside the house and went out for a night clubbing spree when the fire occurred .
She returned in the morning only to find the house on fire as neighbors tried their best to extinguish it.
It was reported that the fire was sparked off by an electric short circuit around midnight . It claimed lives of innocent children identified as Ellah Namiiro, 12 years old, Amani Namulema 5 years old and Namujju Tamale 3 years old and all of them had been locked inside the house by the mother, a renowned partier rather than a party animal of Entebbe.
The Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesman ,ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident revealing that investigations into the matter had kick-started .
Afande Owesigire explained that Preliminary findings indicate that the mother of the victims, Nalubwama Julie, had left them unattended while their father, Lenon Kavuma was away in Jinja for work.
‘The fire broke out at about 1:00 am, and was reported to Police by the local LC1 Chairperson. Police Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly and extinguished the blaze.
Two bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside burnt beyond recognition, ” Afande Owesigire explained.
‘ We took the bodies to city mortuary Mulago hospital for postmortem, pending investigations into the matter.
Information further disclosed that the children were later buried on Sunday at 4pm at their ancestral home .
