The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has made special arrangements for Muslims returning from Mecca.
“This is to inform the traveling public that Muslim pilgrims are scheduled to return from Mecca starting on June 21 to June 28, 2024. Owing to the anticipated traffic build up, departing passengers are advised to plan for more time, so as to be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to their scheduled departure time to avoid missing flights during this period,” Vianney M. Luggya, Manager Public Affairs, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, said in a statement on Thursday.
According to UCAA, a designated area has been reserved, with a tent erected in the VIP parking to cater for the meet and greet engagements.
“One vehicle shall be allowed to access the Airport to pick the returning pilgrim(s). Other accompanying vehicles shall be diverted to the playground opposite Protea Hotel, before the Aviation Police check point to wait from there. The vehicle to be allowed access shall have a sticker issued by the pilgrimage organizers, Uganda Bureau of Haj Affairs,” added Luggya.
The arrangement is aimed at ensuring less congestion within the airport for a better passenger experience for all users of the facilities.
