The Uganda national rugby sevens team has been suspended from participating in the 2026 Rugby Africa Mauritius Sevens due to travel restrictions linked to the recent Ebola outbreak, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a statement issued on June 11,2026, by the President Uganda Rugby Union, Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe , states that the decision followed the recent Ebola outbreak, and the temporary prohibition of entry into Mauritius of foreign nationals who are travelling from, transiting through, or who have been present in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within the preceding 21 days.
“Rugby Africa, the Rugby Committee, and Uganda Rugby are actively engaging to explore possibilities for HongKong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Division 3 Rugby Qualification” he said.
Uganda has been replaced by Senegal in Group B who will play alongside Madagascar, Ghana and Tunisia. Mauritius Rugby committee announced that Uganda Cranes Rugby team will not be able to participate in this year’s rugby tournament due to the travel restrictions.
Meanwhile, ten rugby teams across the African continent are expected to compete in this year’s tournament. They include; Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Kenya, South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana and host Mauritius.
