The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has certified four more companies to produce non-medical facemasks as of August 6, 2020.
The new companies to produce the health pieces are; Amani Health and Beauty Products – SMC Ltd, Crane Clothing Company – SMC Ltd, Cleaning & General Supplies Enterprises (U) Ltd (CGS) and X-ERA Limited.
According to Sylvia Kirabo, UNBS’s Principal Public Relations Officer, the latest additions bring the total number of certified non-medical facemasks manufacturers to 49 in the country.
“This is in line with the UNBS mandate of consumer protection, aimed at protecting Ugandans from buying substandard non-medical facemasks which could be harmful to their health, in the wake of COVID-19,” says Ms Kirabo.
The number of companies certified to manufacture non-medical facemasks is expected to increase and as such, UNBS will issue updated lists periodically.
Wearing facemasks in public is mandatory for all Ugandans and other people in the country aged six years and above, following the easing of the COVID-19 lockdown.
