UNEB Warns Schools, Head teachers Against Extortionists Ahead of UCE Release

By Our Reporter

The Uganda National examinations Board (UNEB) has warned schools and head teachers against falling for extortionists whom the Board says are moving around schools, conning head teachers on account that their UCE 2020 results have been withheld.

According to UNEB Executive Director, Dan N. Odongo, the concern has reached his desk that some criminals are moving around schools and approaching head teachers under the pretext that UNEB shall withhold the results of such schools due to their involvement in forms of exam malpractice.

But Odongo explains that in case the results of schools have been withheld due to suspected examination malpractice, the policy of UNEB is to notify in writing, the affected schools as well as the district examination officials.

After this process, Odongo says, schools are then formally invited to appear before the relevant Committee of the Board to be accorded a fair hearing, not as some people are doing.

With the reports of extortion, in a statement Thursday, Odongo condemned acts of extortion and warned head teachers and the general public not to allow themselves to be hoodwinked and exploited.

He notes that the Board maintains and observes a high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism in the processes, procedures and practices.

To this, he rallied the public to work closely with UNEB so as to stamp out the criminal elements undermining the credibility of the country’s education system.

UNEB releases UCE 2020 results tomorrow, Friday at an event at the State House, Entebbe.
