July 28, 2025UPDF Engineering Brigade (NEC) Hands over Refurbished Mary Stuart Hall to Makerere University Management
Following a presidential directive to refurbish all halls of residences at Makerere University, the UPDF Engineering brigade has finally completed the refurbishment of Mary Stuart Hall and handed it over to the university management for students to use.
The Chief executive Officer of the National Enterprise Corporation, Lt. Gen. James Mugira revealed that the renovation of dilapidated Mary Stuart Hall of residence began last year on July 26 and was completed this year in July 2025.
” On July 26,2024, a dilapidated Mary Stuart Hall was handed to the National Enterprise corporation for rehabilitation. This is our third project from Makerere University, the first one was construction of a perimeter wall around Lumumba Hall.
Now we have delivered the work on time. W have not had variation in prices of building materials ever since we started the construction works up to completion, ” Lt.Gen. Mugira revealed.
Gen. Mugira asked the University management to entrust his corporation with more construction works.
” The facility we have handed to the university for students to use promotes a healthy living and mind. It also facilitates social interaction, ” Gen. Mugira said.
Lt. Gen. James Mugira vehemently warned students against vandalizing the building facility and to maintain the structural integrity of the building.
The vice chancellor Makerere University, Prof .Banabas Nawangwe, commended the UPDF Engineering brigade for the good job well done, and appealed to the students to maintain their hall of residence properly.
” I thank the president of Uganda for issuing a directive to have all the dilapidated halls of residences renovated. I also thank the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) for the wonderful work so far exhibited. The refurbished hall of residence will be used strictly for it’s intended purposes mainly for students’ residence.
” We shall approach the Ministry of finance for more additional funds to renovate more facilities at Makerere University.
Prof. Nawangwe suggested to turn the refurbished hall of residence into a hotel facility or conference rooms when students are away for holidays. “I appreciate the president for funding this project and also thank the UPDF engineering Brigade for great job done, ” Prof. Nawangwa expressed his gratitude
