US Gov’t Speaks Out On Kidnapped National

In a statement shared last night, the United States Embassy in Kampala said it is aware of reports that an American citizen was kidnapped at Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The embassy also confirmed that Uganda security organs are responding to the matter, warning of care when traveling to Ishasha area due to security checks.

The communication came hours after security agencies had responded in hunt for kidnappers of Kimberley Sue Endecott and her driver, Jean Paul Mirengo Remezo who were kidnapped by armed gunmen on Tuesday evening near Katoke Gate in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Five other tourists were abandoned unhurt.

Later yesterday, using a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims, the kidnappers asked for USD500, 000 ransom.

Heavy security deployment remain on the ground to trace the duo’s captors.
