Church to work with schools to boost education and faith

Directors and proprietors of educational institutions have pledged their continuous support towards good networking relationships with the Church of Uganda, especially the policy on faith and holistic education for children and youth.

The call has been made by leaders of private schools and institutions that subscribe to the church of Uganda faith during the visit by the Rev Fr. Jackson Matovu the emeritus Bishop of Central Buganda diocese to the St. James Church of Uganda Masajja Kyabaggu parish Mengo archdeaconry.

He had represented the Bishop of Namirembe diocese Bishop Moses Banja during a pastoral visit to the Christian community of Masajja parish as well as seeking their views on the church development agenda.

Matovu who heads the Uganda Martyrs Museum at Namugongo commended the schools in the area for responding to the church’s vision of encouraging parents to send children to their immediate Church located schools as a deliberate strategy of keeping both children and parents closer to their church which offers spiritual nourishment.

“As the church we are happy to see that parents of St. James church of Uganda Masajja parish have embraced the vision of the church by choosing the path of sending their children to schools within the locality of their church which helps build a strong faith,” noted Matovu.

He observed that the church will continue building capacity for the educational institutions in ensuring that they effectively embrace both the church and government policies on empowering the youth to fight negative vices such as homosexuality, alcoholism, poverty and corruption.

The director of St. Miriam high school Busabala Justine Bagabo who doubles as the former head of laity and chairperson Mothers Union of the church used the opportunity to commend the good working relationship between the Namirembe diocese  education department and the parents saying it has created a strong bond which has enabled them to send students to participate in church related activities.

The director of Joy primary school Masajja Nkuliye Phine who doubles as the leader of laity and head of the July fundraising drive campaign for the church roofing project said they are proud to associate as well as serve both the church and the country through provision of quality education to the children of Uganda.

Both the parish priest and the chairperson event organizing committee Rev. Godfrey Kyanda and John Ategeka respectively encouraged  their flock to embrace government economic empowerment programs as well as church programs that bolsters household development among others.
