Makerere Guild Race: Abenakyo Tormentor Gives University security ultimatum

By Francis Otucu

David Musiri, a Makerere University guild contender has tasked university management to withdraw heavy security deployment ahead of the March guild polls.

A controversial person, Musiri, a second year student of BCOM (External) was among the contenders interfacing with the university management yesterday at the Senate.

Previously, Musiri has accused the university management of wrongly awarding a degree to the Miss World Africa winner Quinn Abenakyo, and this time he argued that the deployment will cause fear and a sense of military involvement at the university before, during and after polls.

Our sources who attended the meeting could not quickly get back to us on the response of management to Musiri’s demand.

But speaking to The Second Opinion recently, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango assured students of maximum security before, during and after the guild electoral process.

He said the presence of both uniform and non-uniform personnel at the university is healthy and normal and that only ‘criminals’ should worry about the deployment.

Musiri, who lost the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flagbearer position to Lilly Namuddu early this week, is contesting as an Independent candidate under the banner ‘Student Power’.
