Man who butchered Chinese National stuck in traffic jam arrested after CCTV expose

The police have finally arrested a man who assaulted a Chinese national along Bombo Road in Kampala. The incident, captured on CCTV cameras happened on May 26, 2019. Police sources say Ashirafu Kivumbi attacked Yu Quang Wei before breaking his arm, leaving him with an injured nose. He reportedly made away with an unspecified amount of money. However, his face was captured on CCTV cameras. After watching the footage, a police officer attached to Wandegeya Police Station identified the suspect. Similar, on June 2, 2019, the CCTV cameras captured him snatching another mobile phone from a one Fred Katsinzi while he was driving his Toyota Harrier vehicle near Bible House on Bombo Road. It was yesterday when he was arrested while on his operations in the city center. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango confirmed arrest. He said Kivumbi was arrested together with his other accomplice identified as Baker alias Buuba. The pair are said to operate from Bombo Road, Gadaffi Road, Kiseeka and Old Kampala.

“After arrest, we dug out his history and found out that he had several criminal cases on which he was arrested and convicted.  Upon release after serving his sentences, he returned and continued with thefts,” Onyango said.

The pair, currently being detained at  Wandegeya Police Division are to be charged with theft, aggravated robbery and being in possession of stolen property
