MUBS  leadership training Centre to empower youths with vital knowledge

Makerere University Business School [MUBS] has officially launched their leadership personal training centre which focuses on development of leaders and best leadership and governance practices capable of turning around the students into useful future leaders of the country.

The ceremony held on Friday  at MUBS main auditorium and attended by over 60 participants was presided over by the principal Prof.Moses Muhwezi who encouraged the students to know what they want and be able to set personal goals, missions and targets as they prepare to venture into the unknown future.

‘Individually try to know what you want and set goals, missions and targets such that as you venture into the unknown future, you are ready to encounter societal challenges that await you’ noted Prof.Muhwezi.

‘When that time comes for you to graduate and leave these gates of MUBS, ensure that you don’t move out as an ordinary person but a fully-fledged distinguished  person armed with strong spirits of self-discipline, integrity, hard work and respect for all’ observed Muhwezi.

He urged the students that would join the centre to ensure that each one of them makes his or her own personal brand which would enable them to become competitive in all spaces of service delivery.  

Namuddu in her remarks said her leadership centre was established in 2007 as one of MUBS outreach Centres to focus on development of leaders and best leadership and governance practices.

She pointed out that the centre guided by a strong board and committed management is implementing their set strategic plan  of activities to achieve set goals that include creating a database of world leaders, research, publication, short term trainings as well as mentoring programs, seminars and conferences that aim at empowering the learners with the necessary skills of strategic leadership credentials.

While giving insights of the centre she pointed out that they continue to engage different target groups in their activities like Bank of Uganda, National water and Sewerage Corporation in their training programs as well as going regional to train top administrative staff of COMESA thus building their capability to serve well.

The MUBS dean faculty of management Dr. Joshua Mugamba said leadership was not a title but a journey of self-growth as students must learn self-awareness and influence others in regard to decision making.

The guild president Amanya Moses commended the MUBS leadership for granting them an opportunity to improve on their leadership skills which has enabled many excel to become responsible and respected citizens of society.

The dean of students Juliet Kateega said roles of a good leader must be impactful to the society they serve and that many marriages are crumbling today due to girl’s lack of self- made leadership skills to make the right decisions at home.

She observed that the center has capacity and capability of giving a chance to all positive minded students of all grades to master the art of leadership to effectively fit into the society.
